Café Ambrizete home appeared in the 70s and can be said to be part of a range of the oldest houses in the area. The name ‘Ambrizete’ derives from the time of the returnees, the people who returned from the old Portuguese overseas provinces, being the name of an Angolan city at the time. At the beginning, with the theme of a tea room, the space contained sofas for the comfort of its clients and paintings on the walls with the theme ‘Angola’. Of these paintings it is still possible to see part of them under the false ceiling, as well as a stained glass window that is part of the origins of the house. Nowadays, the highlight goes to the games of Santa Casa, to its billiards, to the space outside and to its soup, which never disappoints its clients.

Initially, the Pão com Manteiga (meaning Bread with Butter) was supposed to be just a cafeteria. It became a restaurant since a student asked if he could have for lunch the food that Zaina, the principal manager and cook, used to cook for her husband and children. That day she didn’t even charge money to the student, who the next day returned with a group of friends. That day she served 10 dishes, the next day she served 20 and today it’s served an average of 200 dishes a day of simple and delicious homemade food. Noteworthy are the traditional Portuguese and Brazilian dishes, but also the famous Brazilian pastries and desserts, such as brigadeiros. It has a nice terrace in which you can enjoy on sunny days.

The restaurant Peza Arroz was born in 1944, still under the name Casa de Melgaço, and owes its name to the nickname of the owner’s great-grandfather. The Bug Hug was born in 2020 as a result of the owner’s need to reinvent her career path and the synergy of family work. As an artist and educator she felt the need to redirect her work to a project that already existed in the drawer of dreams – the bug hug. The family, with more than thirty years of experience in children’s clothing, helped to give birth to a new brand of clothing aimed at babies and children. With its own design, national manufacture (in its own workshop and in partner workshops) and selected raw materials, the garments result in a contemporary and eclectic style that respects sustainability and ecological responsibility.
