Moreda owes its name to Manuel Francisco Moreda, a former councilor of the Oporto Chamber and member of the Porto Trade Association, who in 1860 opened a fig brandy distillery, which later evolved into the wider trade of wines and white drinks. Moreda has a huge variety of snacks made from shard cake such as nail and garlic shard cake. Noteworthy is the francesinha in Caco cake, a mix between the most typical Porto snack with one of the delights of Madeira.
