It was in the distant year of 1912 that the centenary Livraria Académica, located at Rua Martires da Liberdade, opened its doors. Specializing in Portuguese-language authors, her wide selection covers a number of other important topics such as science, technical books and history.
With prices for various possibilities, the Livraria Académica is a landmark in the city, receiving for many decades, always with the knowledge only possible by years of experience, a legion of lovers of literature, who will be lost in this historic space and will find inevitably, among their vast offerings, some book that appeals to them, whether they are rarities or options at very inviting prices.

It already has 16 years in the market and is the only bookstore in the country specializing in poetry and theater. Valter Hugo Mãe called it a “gourmet bookstore” and, in fact, Poetry is a way of being that bets on its own editions as well as on the poetic arts of several Portuguese authors, English literature, Brazilian poetry and small publishers, representing also some of the most important Portuguese and foreign publishers. “Poetry heals, theater is life,” is the epigraph of this independent bookstore, where love for a cause is a source of perseverance. More than a bookstore, Poetria aims to be a “meeting point, for the exchange of information between people and books and for the dissemination of poetry and theater.”

Museu das Marionetas is an author museum, centered on the work of João Paulo Seara Cardoso (1956-2010), director and artistic director of the Porto Puppet Theater. This is a memory space and future, in constant update. The opening of the Museum in 2013 marked the 25th anniversary of the Company. Puppets, props and emblematic objects used in the Company’s shows, as well as some of its stories, are exhibited and shared here. Museu das Marionetas also has a shop where various objects are available for sale, such as the puppets, brochures, catalogs and merchandising of the museum itself.
