Buttons, buttons and more buttons. The well-buttoned “Wasp” and parked outside the door is the ideal business card for a space where buttons are the main actors and storytellers. Each has a life of its own, a tale to tell, a unique experience and feel. Son and grandson of seamstresses and with the “pet” of mechanics, Rui Oliveira always coexisted with the buttons. It grew with them, but its process in the art of creation begins in jewelery, in the preciousness of filigree, where everything is worked by hand, meticulously. Creating a different concept coupled with a life course brought him back to the origins, the buttons and, with them, storytelling.

Open to the public since April 2015, Mercadinho dos Açores intends to offer the city of Porto an Azorean corner with the sensitivity and tenderness of the archipelago’s soul. Mercadinho has a grocery store of regional products for sale, such as São Miguel meat, Corvo cheese, Lava cakes, Santa Catarina tuna or Graciosa cheese, genuine and quality products, as they are certified by nature and with the guarantee of the Azores Mark seal, issued by SDEA – Society for the Business Development of the Azores. It also has a wine cellar with several brands of white and red wines and liqueur wines.

Founded in 2004, this space owes its name to the lady who dreamt of one day having a shop dedicated to traditional Portuguese crockery made on the potter’s wheel and painted by hand. Nowadays is nicknamed the “Pottery and Embroidery shop” due to the two main categories of products: ceramics and embroidery, both handcrafted and 100% Portuguese. Highlights include the faience from Coimbra, ceramics from São Pedro do Corval in Alentejo, roosters from Barcelos, certified embroideries from the Azores, certified shawls, and handkerchiefs from Minhoto and Meadela, among others. In addition to the items on display, clients can learn about the manufacturing process, the history of the pieces and videos of their production. They have the option of producing customized parts.
