Latina is one of the most emblematic bookstores in Porto. It was founded in 1942 by Henrique Perdigão and is known for its façade, highlighting the bust of Luis de Camões. It was the first company in Portugal to create a literary contest, right in the year of its inauguration. The winner of the contest was Prof. José Hermano Saraiva who competed with the work “Vento vindo dos montes” using the pseudonym Simplicimus. Now part of the Leya group, Latina continues to offer its customers a wide range of books. Museu das Marionetas is an author museum, centered on the work of João Paulo Seara Cardoso (1956-2010), director and artistic director of the Porto Puppet Theater. This is a memory space and future, in constant update. The opening of the Museum in 2013 marked the 25th anniversary of the Company. Puppets, props and emblematic objects used in the Company’s shows, as well as some of its stories, are exhibited and shared here. Museu das Marionetas also has a shop where various objects are available for sale, such as the puppets, brochures, catalogs and merchandising of the museum itself.

One of the oldest bookstores in the country and one of the most coveted bookstores in the world, Lello is an important landmark of the city of Porto and a must-see for tourists visiting the city. Opened in 1906, the building boasts a neo-Gothic façade, standing out from the surrounding urban landscape. Inside, bookcases and ceilings are copiously worked out, with special mention being made of the extraordinary staircase leading to the first floor and the large stained glass window that bears the monogram with the Decus in labore Bookstore border. In 2016, the façade and the stained glass were carefully restored and restored to their original look and brightness.
