A German family started Bücherstube about 25 years ago as a response to the difficulty of obtaining school books for the German School. When this family returned to Germany, two sisters, former students of the German School, acquired the estate and set up the Bücherstube company in its current location. Since then they have been developing their business in various fields, German books, stationery and other products and services, as well as school books for Portuguese schools. In 2016 they opened a similar space in Lisbon, near the German School.

One of the oldest bookstores in the country and one of the most coveted bookstores in the world, Lello is an important landmark of the city of Porto and a must-see for tourists visiting the city. Opened in 1906, the building boasts a neo-Gothic façade, standing out from the surrounding urban landscape.
